Taking The Reins The Rosewoods Book 1 eBook Katrina Abbott

Brooklyn is starting her junior year at a prestigious boarding school called Rosewood, home to the wealthy, talented and famous. Brooklyn has decided that since she is the new girl, she can become anyone she wants to be, and she wants to take chances and be bold. Right off the bat she meets 2 cute new boys and a handful of girls who have the potential to be friends. Not to mention the fact that she can ride horses again! But things don't go as smoothly as Brooklyn dreamed they would.

This was a very fast paced story, probably the shortest audiobook I have ever listened to at around 4.5 hours, but I think the length was just perfect to tell the story. This was just a taste of the new life that Brooklyn has as Rosewood academy, the start of her new big adventure and spanned at most two weeks. I thought this was a great introduction to the characters as well as the world. This story seemed to focus a lot on potential romance and developing friendships.

As a side note, I was slightly confused about the whole situation about Brooklyn's parents and the fact she had a secret last name she could not even remember due to security purposes. She mentions her father works for the military, so I guess a spy maybe, but it was so vague and random. I hope this comes up in more detail later on in the series, otherwise I think it should not be includes at all.

The story has a love square- Brooklyn has 3 boys that she likes, 2 off limits and one ok but slightly secretive. (So this is an all girl school she attends, but that doesn't mean in the slightest that their is a shortage of boy problems). Let's start with Will, the boy she meets the first few minutes of arriving at the school and is instantly attracted to but there is a big issue he doesn't mention. Then there is Brody (my absolute favorite!), the brooding stable boy who has a secret he doesn't reveal, and then the former childhood star Jordan who is super awkward about his past. Brooklyn, who has no real experience with boys is for sure over her head. And it doesn't help that most of her friends are boy crazy. To be honest, a LARGE chunk of this book deals with Brooklyn and her friends obsessing and talking about boys.

At times the narrator would say some parts in an English accent and other's without which was very odd to me, and yes the character mentions she has a strange hybrid accent, but I felt like this was off and on and not very consistent (which was probably hard to determine for the narrator with that description). Overall, I think the narrator and the overall quality of the audiobook was really good and I would listen to more from this narrator, be it this series or others.

This was a fun fast read to start the series and I would love to read the next book- preferably in audio version because I enjoyed this adventure.

Taking The Reins The Rosewoods Book 1 eBook Katrina Abbott Reviews

This was such a sweet, yet alluring first book in this series. Basically, it's about Brooklyn's move back to the USA from London and starting at Rosewoods Academy, and elite high school for the children of the rich and powerful. Brooklyn is determined to "reinvent" herself into someone more fun and popular this year at this new school. She meets some great new friends right away and really seems to start to fit in. Even though Rosewoods is an all girls school, there's an all guys school (for the elite male counterparts) just a few miles away. And lucky her, Brooklyn has already met and made friends with some of the hotties from there too. Sounds like it will be a fun year... Excited to read the whole series!
I thoroughly liked how easy this book was to read. Got more than a few giggles and laughs due to the characters personalities. I completely enjoyed no cursing and no overt sexual scenes. Just a LOT of making out. I would certainly recommend this book to the above mentioned age groups.
I really liked this book. It went byu so fast for me, i loved that. I loved how there was a whole school full of girls, and there was no mean girl trying to ruin Brooklyn's life. But, yet it was only about what its like to be a normal teenage girl. I liked how there was three guys. That liked her, the first one was Will (Dave) he was very flirty with her when he was taking her luggage to her room for her. And soon later, she really likes him (WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY IS A SPOILER) but then she realizes that Will is Emmie's girlfriend Dave. And she feels sorry and tries to go on with Brady. He's the second one. Brady is her coach. Of course she didn't know that, because she's new. He liked her, because she thought of him as a stable boy, not a coach thats going to the olympics. But, sadly they're not aloud to date. Then, Jared comes along, (I'm Team Jared) and he was supposed to just dance with her, because he stole her panities, as a prank from the boys of Westwood. But then she flirts with him the next time, she sees him and he falls for her. Then when they meet again, she's wearing his underwear and she takes them off and hands them to him. He was so shocked and he was about to kiss her when Emmie said stuff blah blah blah it was a very good book
I got a recommendation for this book with a link to get it for free on . So I figured I would check it out. I am glad I did -- it was a good light summer read -- fun & flirty!

Taking the Reins is the first book in the Rosewood series. Brooklyn Prescott is the new girl at The Rosewood Academy for Academic Excellence. She is back in the States after being in London for a couple of years with her parents. I would say this book was all about introductions. On her very first day, Brooklyn meets Will, a gorgeous and flirty boy on campus to help the girls move in. He is from the all boys school Westwood. As the book progresses we meet too other boys -- Brady, the cute stable boy and Jared, the former child actor.
As we follow Brooklyn as settles in at Rosewood -- she vows to take this opportunity to make herself into the girl she always wanted to be -- a little more fun, flirty, etc...

The book is pretty short and like I said I feel like it was an introductions type (no direct plot but an intro of what is to come in future books)of to the main characters and the setting. The ending is rather abrupt -- normally that would bother me but since book 2 already exists I was able to dive right into that one to satisfy my curiosity of what happens next.

The only issue I had was that there were three boys loving Brooklyn and since Brooklyn professes that she is a pretty plain, normal girl that boys had never fallen all over in the past I found that pretty hard to believe. I liked Brooklyn's personality so it was not a far stretch for one boy to fall for her and possibly even two but the third one (who had a great girlfriend) was the one that really threw me over in the believability. Not that is stopping me from moving on to book 2 -)
